4 Easy Care Tips to Increase the Lifespan of Your Interior Windows

4 Easy Care Tips to Increase the Lifespan of Your Interior Windows

Interior windows in an office or home are a large investment, so it’s important that you take some precautions to maximize their use. Protect your investment and ensure that your windows get the care they deserve with these 4 tips.

Keep the Glass Clean

Dirty windows have a hard time draining moisture. Over time these moisture deposits could degrade the glass, giving your windows a grainy or foggy look. Particles can also enter the pores of the glass to corrode and contaminate it over time, building up bacteria that you wouldn’t even notice! When cleaning the glass, avoid using ammonia or alcohol-based cleaners because they tend to leave streaks. While abrasive cleaners may be touted as good for tough-to-clean windows, they actually contain small abrasive particles that can scratch and damage your window’s glass. We recommend a gentle cleaning solution and a microfibre cloth.

Clean the Interior Frame on a Regular Basis

While it’s easier to just quickly wipe the glass, cleaning the interior frame, the tracks, and screen of a window is also important for longevity and preserving quality. Interior screens can be vacuumed with a soft brush attachment and the rest of the frame should be gently wiped with your microfibre cloth and a soap and water solution.

Check the Caulking

Over time, caulking that’s exposed, even to interior elements, will begin to break down. This can lead to leaky, drafty windows that don’t keep pests out.The good news is that checking the interior caulking on your windows is easy to do and a patch-job can be done yourself in just a few minutes.

Maintaining Your Investment

Windows only need to be cleaned 1-2 times a year, and while they’re being cleaned, you should lubricate the hardware with a silicone spray. You can also spray the operating components with a protective spray to keep them working well for years to come.
